Film and Video Archive – Services for Commercial Access
The Imperial War Museum provides access to films and videos of its vast collection, subject to normal copyright restrictions and the prior demands of the Museum's preservation programme.
Requests relating to the use of moving images for broadcast, DVD, theatrical, non-theatrical, corporate or similar purposes are dealt with by the Film and Video's Archive Production Office in London.
Card indexes and associated documentation for all other parts of the collection can be researched in the Production Office. Twenty-four hours' notice is usually sufficient to make an appointment. Research of the catalogue is free of charge.
For viewing films and videos in one of the Archive's viewing rooms, notice of at least 5-7 days is required, as the material has to be retrieved from external temperature controlled storage.
Time-coded copies can be supplied for viewing/initial editing purposes. Material can be transferred on to all broadcast formats and television standards by approved independent commercial companies. Payment for such transfers is made direct to the respective company. The Museum charges a licence fee for the usage of film and video material from its collection.
The Film and Video Archive releases its material under the Imperial War Museum's Terms and Conditions. The Museum charges a fee for viewing and producing time-coded viewing material. More information available upon request.
