Curator's Choice: And so to France....

Rare archive film of the D-Day Landings.  6 June 1944 - 75 years

Senior Film Curator Jane Fish Curator's Choice for D-Day 75 is the amateur film “And So To France – A Naval Story of the Invasion”.

This edited film, shot by Lieutenant Michael Serraillier RNVR onboard Landing Ship Infantry “Queen Emma”, includes detailed shots of the crew preparing the ship and at sea, the assembled invasion fleet in Southampton Water as well as infantry in landing craft being lowered from the ship off Normandy and heading for Courseulles on 6 June.

This intimate and unique film of one ship and one ship’s crew’s contribution to the D-Day Landings is available for licensing and is another example of the importance of amateur films to the historian and filmmaker.
