Summary: A German road convoy destroyed by RAF fighter-bombers on the 17th or 18th August 1944 is found on a country road east of the Falaise-Argentan highway.
Description: Their cargoes spilled onto the ground, horse-drawn waggons, trucks, lorries and trailers lie wrecked and abandoned on the road between Pierrefitte and Clinchamps-Sur-Orne; some vehicles have become unrecognisable heaps of twisted steel and splintered wood. The cameraman examines an NSU Kettenrad motorcycle half-track lying in a bomb crater, a burnt-out Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf H, a Sturmgeschütz III (which with a Ford truck in the background appears to be pointing westwards in the opposite direction to the other vehicles seen here), two more PzKpfw IV tanks (one in tow behind the other) and a road sign pointing the way to Erouche, Argentan and local villages with an upturned Citroën light truck nearby. Waggons and omnibus (?) are found abandoned on a bombed- out stretch of the same road near an embanked section of the Caen-Argentan railway. In Necy, French farmers on captured horses watch a DR (despatch rider), a jeep and an M5 half-track from the 4th Welch Regiment drive through the battered village. The cameraman examines an abandoned 10.5cm le.G42 recoilless rifle.
