Description: A number of surface ships and submarines are shown in port, at anchor and at sea, including several shots of the Kiev Class aircraft carrier Novorossiysk (137) at anchor with YAK 38 'Forger' aircraft on deck. Divers train to exit a submarine through the torpedo tubes, sailors practice damage control procedures in a simulator, submarines and surface ships participate in anti-submarine warfare exercises. A review of the Pacific Fleet is followed by ground forces exercising with tanks, armoured personnel carriers, artillery and helicopters. Soldiers run an assault course in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) protective clothing, airborne troops lift rocks and run as part of their physical training programme and 'Hero of the Soviet Union' Colonel A Y Slyusar is interviewed. Further scenes of combat training are followed by footage of combat against the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan and more combat training, particularly hand to hand combat and Fighting In Built Up Areas (FIBUA) exercises. MiG 29 'Fulcrum' aircraft scramble, surface to air missiles are prepared for action and a series of models representing past and present aircraft of the Soviet Air Force are shown. An army post office sorts mail, which is loaded into a van and then a transport aircraft. The film finishes with a firepower demonstration, involving the deployment of infantry from Mi-8 'Hip' helicopters, armoured vehicles and live firing demonstrations by Mi-24 'Hind' helicopter gunships.
