Description: A 1st Corps engineers bulldozer pushes earth onto the Caen- Luc-sur-Mer railway line during the construction of a bypass around the small town of Douvres-la-Délivrande. A 1st Corps troops Fordson 15cwt truck drives into the town where off-duty troops stroll along its high street and fraternise with some of its inhabitants; the presence of two armed signallers on patrol warns of the possibility of German snipers. A gendarme and civilians gather round to read an Allied curfew notice and a proclamation from General Eisenhower posted on a wall. Military police direct the flow of traffic and troops through Douvres' narrow streets. A CMP corporal asks directions from a gendarme outside an information-cum-recruiting office. Weary, apprehensive-looking infantrymen from the 3rd Canadian Division march towards the front line north west of Caen. Men from the 9th British Brigade HQ Company carry boxes of PIAT ammunition through Le Mesnil Wood (?).
