Summary: Unedited footage of CDE observation team from Warsaw Pact countries, including USSR, GDR and Poland, visiting British forces in West Germany where they are shown weapons and observe parts of Exercise Iron Hammer.
Description: (Tape 1) Soviet, East German and Polish officers are given demonstrations of the British SA80 assault rifle and Warrior infantry fighting vehicles.
(Tape 2) CDE observation team visits the Grenadier Guards during the exercise. They are shown the SA80 and Light Support Weapon as well as the Warrior infantry fighting vehicle. Colonel Avdejev of the Soviet Army shares cigarettes with two Grenadiers. In a lecture room, a briefing is given to the CDE team by British and West German officers, describing the troop movements for that particular day of the exercise and security measures in place, including the restrictions on the use of cameras. CDE in various field locations with British officers. Warrior infantry fighting vehicles, Challenger Mk1 tanks and FV432 armoured personnel carriers move in formation over both ploughed and cultivated fields in West Germany.
(Tape 3) The CDE observation team meets a British Army Javelin surface to air missile detachment.
