- Description: AYY 257/2. 6 September. Dogfight between Hurricanes and German Messerschmitt Me 109 aircraft over Deir El Hima. Pilots who have baled out descend to earth. A Hurricane spins and pancakes in a minefield. The pilot is Lieutenant Burl of SAAF 7 Squadron (South African Air Force). He is seen talking to men of the 22nd New Zealand Battalion. He puts his parachute in a jeep. 3 September. Lieutenant-General Ramsden and Mr Casey visit the 9th Australian Division in the Western Desert. Casey leaves the mess at Australian 20th Brigade and talks to staff officers. Enemy planes and ack-ack fire. 4 September. Casey visits the 5th Indian Division at the Central Sector, Alamein Line. He steps out of a jeep during an air battle, and greets Major-General H R Briggs. He meets officers and after tea he visits the Brigades and looks at knocked out German tanks. He visits the 9th Indian Brigade. He climbs a ridge to view the German lines and then leaves for the New Zealand Division. AYY 257/3. 3 September. General Freyberg holds a final conference before an attack with Brigadier Robertson, Officer Commanding 132nd Brigade, 44th Division. The Royal West Kent Regiment moves forward; they are supported by Valentine tanks and artillery. Shell explosions. 3 September. Italian prisoners from the 133rd Artillery Regiment, Littorio Division are brought into the HQ of the 4th Light Armoured Brigade. They were captured by the 12th Lancers near Mount Himeimat. Captain Karmel speaks to the prisoners. Sergeant Baxter of Brigade Intelligence searches the prisoners. They are interrogated and sent to a POW camp. 4 September. Wendell Willkie visits Montgomery at Eighth Army HQ at Burg El Arab in a staff car from the US Embassy and speaks into a microphone for the BBC. He meets pressmen. 1 September. Some of the 97 German prisoners captured in an Australian raid near Tel El Eisa station. They are searched and sorted into their respective units.

He was sent to Persia initially to make a film about getting supplies through to Russia and made many other films in the Western Desert. He joined the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). His career after the war was mainly filming documentaries and his last documentary was Whickers War, made in 2004.
