- Summary: An edition of the British official newsreel "World Pictorial News", produced by the Ministry of Information, Middle East.
- Description: I. 'NEWS FROM ENGLAND.' Visitors to the Hertfordshire Agricultural Show (Watford) crowd around a tented display stand bearing the legend "Electricity for Farm and Home". Spectators watch a milking demonstration and displays of prize cattle and goats. Express Dairy milkmen drive past crowds in a milk dray. A Watney Combe Reid and Co. dray is driven past admiring spectators (the dray carries an advertisement for Reid's Stout Ale). Brief footage shows young horseriding competitors in the "Novice Jump Competition". A display of shire horses and prize-winning bulls follows. Elsewhere, elephants bound for Regent's Park Zoo are off loaded from berthed merchantmen by quayside hoist. The animals are loaded into a waiting transporter lorry under the supervision of Curator Frost. Footage cuts to the Ayot St.Lawrence home of Irish playwright, critic and propagandist George Bernard Shaw. Shaw, now ninety years old, stares into the camera and is later shown entering his small summerhouse containing his type-writer and desk. The commentary states that Shaw, famous for his dislike of interviews, quipped "If you want to see me again, give me time to refuse." Footage cuts to the Royal Air Force (RAF) Station at Tangmere (Sussex) where ground crews use Simoniz wax to polish the exterior of a Fighter Command High Speed Flight Gloster Meteor Mk IV (EE529) fighter aircraft. Group Captain E M Donaldson and Flight-Lieutenant Neville Duke pose in front of a Gloster Meteor Mk IV fighter aircraft. A Meteor makes a very low-level high-speed head-on pass to camera. Aerial footage shows Meteor Mk IV EE529 overflying the sea while on the Bognor Regis to Shoreham circuit that will be used during the attempt on the World Air Speed Record (Note- Meteor EE529 served as one of seven batch aircraft and was used as a timing and hack aircraft. The much modified Meteor EE549 flown by Group Captain Donaldson raised the world air speed record to 616 mph on September 8 1946. In order to boost export sales of the Meteor it became convenient to give the illusion that the record was broken by a standard RAF Meteor Mk IV fighter). II. 'CAIRO- KING FAROUK AT CITADEL CEREMONY.' King Farouk arrives by Rolls-Royce at The Citadel (al-Qalaa) in Cairo. He is accompanied by Egyptian Prime Minister Ismail Sidki Pasha. An Egyptian Army guard of honour presents arms (Lee-Enfield Mk III .303-inch rifles) as King Farouk salutes. King Farouk repairs to a royal marquee accompanied by Egyptian religious and civil dignitaries. The Egyptian national flag is ceremoniously raised as an Egyptian pipe and drum band plays. A trio of Supermarine Spitfire Mk V (trop) overfly the ceremony (national markings are obscured but the aircraft may belong to the fledgling Egyptian Air Force). Pigeons are released as a conclusion to the flag-raising ceremony. The mosque of Mohammed Ali and the walls of the Citadel are illuminated at night.
