Description: 7 January. Governor Pierre de Saint-Mart arrives on the quay at Tamatave on the first vessel. General Le Gentilhomme disembarks from the second vessel. He inspects the guard of honour on the quay. He arrives at the residence of the Chef de Région where a large crowd welcomes him and he is handed a bunch of flowers.
8 January. The Micheline train arrives at Tananarive railway station and the sliding door opens to reveal General Le Gentilhomme standing at the door. He leaves the train and shakes hands with Lieutenant-General Sir William Platt, General Officer Commander-in-Chief. Sir William introduces him to British and French officers and officials including Major-General Smallwood and Brigadier Dimoline. General Le Gentilhomme coming out of the station and taking the general salute of the guard of honour of the King's African Rifles. He inspects the guard of honour. The procession arrives at Place Colbert. Sir William Platt and the General step out of the car. They shake hands and General Le Gentilhomme walks to his residence. He salutes the flag and inspects a French guard of honour at the residence. The trumpeters blow a fanfare. A young French girl hands him a bouquet of flowers. A French civilian makes a speech. A French band plays as groups of French servicemen are presented. The Governor General enters the grounds of his residence.
