Signalman Latters takes down the message and gives it to the observation post officer who has concealed himself behind a bush. Sergeant Rattray looking through field glasses for a target. Signalman Latters receives a message from the gun position and takes it to Sergeant Malcolm behind the bush (a retaken shot) then returns to the telephone. James, Robert and William Garriock (three brothers from Lerwick on the Shetland Islands) of the 5/7th Gordon Highlanders in a slit trench in the front line. James and Robert read a letter from home and William looks at a book. Officers of the 5/7th Gordon Highlanders prepare for the next line of defence which is under construction.
