Description: 16 March. The artillery open up the barrage and the East Yorkshires and Green Howards move across a plain and take the enemy positions. Enemy machine guns left in position after a hasty withdrawal. The ground strewn with rifles, grenades and blankets. Enemy dugouts with German and Italian equipment.
19 March. The pilot going forwards to detect the first mine. It strikes the first mine and withdraws to allow the Scorpion tanks to finish the job. The rollers working. Royal Engineers preparing to blast the ravine bank. The explosion takes place while enemy shells burst near the position. Royal Engineers working in short relays to clear the gap.
