Description: A Signal Office sign and tattered blue and white signal flag. The interior of the signal office. Interior of lorry where messages are coded and received. A second lorry serving as an instrument room. The operator in the instrument room gets a dead line and informs the superintendent who in turn notifies the signal master who advises the exchange. The signal master on the phone. Exchange and test frame housed in a three ton lorry. A metre indicates which line is dead and an entry is made in the log book. Teleprinter. The exchange tester advises the NCO in charge of the line party of the break and the party sets off to search for the break. A lorry driving by telegraph poles and the NCO on the running board watching for a break in the wires. The NCO spots the break, the lorry stops and the crew tumble out. The NCO gives instructions to the crew. Mending the break and soldering. The wire is taken up the telegraph pole by a linesman wearing special clamps on his boots. He completes the job and solders it. The NCO uses a field telephone for testing and calls the exchange to report the repair. The line party return.
