Summary: A dramatised training film for the Military Police showing the correct methods and procedures that should be used in solving a crime.
Description: The Military Police's Special Investigation Branch (SIB) is brought in to investigate a break-in at a NAAFI. The scene of the crime is dusted for fingerprints and photographed (shots of packets of OMO washing powder, VIM cleaner, Shreddies breakfast cereal, Smiths Crisps, Quaker Oats, Players Navy Cut cigarettes, Gordon's Gin and Johnny Walker whiskey are shown. The interior of the NAAFI shop resembles a traditional grocer's shop of the period). Theories are put forward as to the purpose of the burglary, as little appears to have been stolen. Various clues are followed, such as the discovery of a broken knife, blood on the floor and a footprint. The discovery of the stolen items (in a corrugated iron Nissen hut) by a small boy ultimately leads to the arrest of the criminals. A formal statement is taken. The reasons for the successful conclusion in solving the crime are summarised: Correct procedures, non-interference with the scene of the crime, initiative of the investigating officer, preservation of all the evidence and a written report. Whatever the crime, the procedures are the same.
