Summary: RAF Headquarters Strike Command video material shot at RAF Brize Norton and RAF Marham between 7 and 10 October 1997.
Description: (Tape 1) I. Activities at RAF Brize Norton: vehicles drive on board Hercules aircraft (camera-position is inside the aircraft's hold). Air-to-air shots of Hercules flying over English countryside taken from cockpit of second Hercules. Landing: ground shots of Hercules taxiing; a group of soldiers stands nearby.
II. Soldiers (RAF Regiment ?) arrive at airfield (possibly RAF Marham) and are greeted. Brief ops scenes.
III. Brief extract from interview with aircraftman. Soldiers (as seen above) visit hangar where Tornado weapons are laid out: officer describes the various missile types to the visitors (very poor sound). Inspection of Tornado aircraft in the hangar.
IV. Sign "II (Army Cooperation) Squadron". Tornados of No 2 Squadron take off from RAF Marham. Two Nimrod reconnaissance aircraft sit on the apron; one of them taxies. (At this point there is a brief period of heavy camera shake.) RAF Regiment. Aircraft landing, including Canberra, Tornado and Nimrod.
V. Part of an interview with RAF member about the job situation under the defence review, including the issue of redundancies.
(Tape 2) VI. Canberra aircraft takes off from RAF Marham: long shot of aircraft in flight. Hercules flies overhead. General views of Marham: Canberra taxies past. Soldiers (RAF Regiment?) by coaches at edge of airfield. They watch an aerobatics display (extended scenes of spectators; only brief glimpses of the aircraft).
VII. Interview with airframe technician Frank Lobb, who talks about his job, and how it is busier now that the number of personnel has been reduced. He discusses pay and conditions and prospects for himself and his colleagues.
