Other titles:RAF STRIKE COMMAND, HIGH WYCOMBE VIDEOCASSETTE COLLECTION [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: Shots of actual incidents involving near misses, control loss and other accidents involving RAF jets; compiled for use in Flight Safety demonstrations. Each section is captioned.
Description: I. "Example of good crew cooperation Tornado F3 ZE789 10 March 1995". Reconstruction of the incident (in which a Tronado crashed into the sea off Spurn Point; Pilot and navigator both ejected although the latter was later declared dead). Actual cockpit voice recording is used with a computer simulation of the aircraft's crash.
II. "Late overshoot Tornado GR1/F3 January 1997". High quality footage of the incident - a Tornado, coming in to land, almost crashes with a second Tornado which is stationary on the runway; the pilot is able pull up in time and continue flying.
III. "Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) Harrier GR7 ZD349 14 January 1994". Display from onboard camera display (with sound) from Harrier as it approaches terrain and crashes (near Evesham).
IV. "Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) F-111". Display from onboard camera display: camera clips terrain but does not crash.
V. "Air miss F15 v C172". Poor quality on board camera in F15 - Cessna C172 flies past very close.
VI. "Air Miss F15 v F15". On board cockpit camera records near miss from F15.
VII. "Loss of Control Jaguar". Scenes from cockpit camera on Jaguar aircraft as it undergoes training manoeuvres over a loch (instructor's voice can be heard). A one point the aircraft loses control and goes into a spin before being steadied.
VIII. "Loss of Control Nimrod XV239 2 September 1996". Two sequences of footage of Nimrod XV239 crashing at an air display near Toronto, Canada.
IX. "Eject in Time Jaguar T2A XX143 18 September 1996". Poor quality shots of the Jaguar crash near RAF Lossiemouth. Clearer shots of the recovery of the wreckage, ferried to land in two pieces by Chinook helicopter.
