Summary: Highlights of a joint services Battle Camp, Exercise Thin Green Line, which took place at Haltern Training Area, Germany, in April 2005
Description: I. Briefing for members of 1 Military Intelligence Battalion (Royal Corps of Signals) and colleagues prior to the (NATO) exercise in "Haltern province", in which Allied forces are going into a civil war zone in a country which has just suffered an earthquake.
II. Montage of "operational" footage: issue of weapons, digging in, contact operations, arresting suspects, liaising with local people.
III. Night scene in which the head of one of the factions (play-acted by a British officer who speaks in English and swears extremely graphically) comes to the Allied base looking for his opposite number. British soldiers liaise with him in an attempt to defuse the situation.
IV. Shooting incident in which a British officer is kidnapped and paraded in a "rebel" video.
V. British officer liaises with the rebel leader (from above) who is suspected of being one of the kidnappers (which he denies).
VI. Storming of building by British troops, resulting in the freeing of the hostage.
