Description: Southampton; HMS Dolphin submarine training college. New trainee, Ellison, joins HMS Artemis. Ship sets sail for Arctic waters on survey mission. The voyage: shipboard routine, watch, relaxation. Arrival in icy waters. Crewman presented with medal; crew horse around. Ellison and oceanographer take measurements. Artemis sets off. More shipboard routine. Engine trouble; repairs finished, ship sets sail for Copenhagen. Ellison writes home: "it's a wonderful life, with a terrific future".
