Summary:Canadian troops and Royal Marine Commandos 'clear up' fortified seaside villages on 'Juno' Beach.
Description:Engineers serving with either the 5th Field Company Royal Canadian Engineers or No 8 Beach Group probe an area of ground behind 'Nan Red' Beach for mines and booby traps. The corpses of men from the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment and derelict and burning invasion craft washed up on to the shore by the tide near a beach exit point at St Aubin-sur-Mer, the damaged and abandoned items of equipment (including a Royal Marine Armoured Support Centaur tank) lying behind 'Nan Red' Beach and the buildings badly holed and set on fire by the preliminary naval and seaborne artillery bombardment in St Aubin and along the road to Langrune-sur-Mer all contribute to the general air of bleakness and devastation in this section of 'Juno' Beach. Royal Marines from No 48 Commando take up positions in Langrune-sur- Mer. A French resistance helper is seen with three commandos. Troops from 4th Special Service Brigade's HQ march from St Aubin's outskirts towards Tailleville. The remaining inhabitants in the village and Canadian troops survey the ruined high street. French firemen and civilian volunteers tackle a burning house with a primitive fire appliance.
