Summary: Aftermath of raid on compound in Basra, Iraq (continued from previous tape).
Description: Royal Engineers with fascine carrier and CET (Combat Engineer Tractor) move ruptured oil pipes and put out the fires. Sappers jump into poll of water which contains the wellhead of the pipe to cut off the oil supply; the fires are then extinguished by covering them with earth using CET. British snipers in position on the roof of one of the compound buildings, also shot of spotter in room below (which used to be a laboratory). Roof snipers fire shots (staged for the camera - no enemy is engaged). Views over the compound, still wreathed in thick black smoke, obscuring the sight line. Interview with Sergeant Eddie Waring, sniper in the Irish Guards, discussing the occupation of the compound and the role of the sniper team. Inside building, soldiers patrol empty corridors (abandoned Iraqi rocket-propelled grenade on the floor); staged shots of soldiers descending stairs. Interview with Major Ben Farrell, discussing the operation to take the compound; there had been little resistance (some indirect fire from the retreating Iraqi forces) but plenty of evidence of past Iraqi activity; the area had been heavily bombed. General ground views of compound, showing damaged buildings (some walls riddled with bulletholes). Large placard featuring Saddam Hussein; Challenger tanks and wrecked civilian tractor beside it. Soldiers relax; one drinks tea from a Union flag mug.
