Summary: Members of 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment in Basra, Iraq.
Description: Troops, on foot with armoured support, on major road on the outskirts of Basra: some of them are relaxed. Interview with Major Dan Warrington, OC C Company 3 Para; his unit has been tasked by 7th Armoured Brigade to clear the remnants of Old Basra (whose narrow streets preclude the use of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards advance guard's heavy armour). Convoy vehicles wait among the rubble of bombed buildings. Roadside map briefing. Paras advance on foot into Basra; one soldier has a companion in the form of a young Iraqi boy (who is allowed to wear a helmet). Passing civilians wave at the soldiers. At the roadside, Iraqi men working with the Red Crescent remove the bodies of dead Iraqis from the roadside (the dead are covered in blankets but are likely to be soldiers - there are helmets and other kit littering the roadside). Brief interview with Iraqi civilian who sends "best wishes to the collection military". Further into Basra, the soldiers are greeted by more civilians; at one point, a crowd of children waves. US helicopter gunship flies overhead. Soldiers by defaced "shrine" to Saddam Hussein. Armour advances: views from the turret of a parked Challenger tank. Nearby is another large image of Saddam, under which the Paras have erected a sandbagged machine gun position. Further interview with Major Warrington, who announces that "we have reached our LOE" (limit of engagement ?).
