- Summary: Members of C Company, 1st Battalion the Rifles, accompanied by the Afghan National Army (ANA), make their way from Forward Operating Base Delhi in Garmsir to Patrol Base Jaker in the Nawa-i-Barakzayi district, ready to conduct patrols and surge operations against suspected Taliban areas.
- Description: Senior officers of C Company cook a barbecue for their counterparts in the ANA at FOB Delhi prior to the move to Nawa. Convoy (1 RIFLES and ANA) moves from FOB Delhi through Garmsir (GMR) to Patrol Base Jaker: views from top cover of moving vehicle. The journey involves driving through the desert, fording streams and negotiating some very rough roads. Arrival at PB Jaker. Patrol (C Company and ANA) begins with briefings: members of the ANA receive orders from British CO. The patrol sets off on foot through local village, across culvert and along the edge of fields. Afghan soldier using a mine detector finds an IED (improvised explosive device), consisting of a triggering plate, battery pack and sticks of explosive hidden by a small building. He renders it safe; and a further search is made for secondary devices. The patrol sets off on foot again across a field; they also precariously cross a stream by balancing on a tree branch. Later, while patrolling along the edge of a field near a treeline, they briefly come under small arms fire (SAF) - they take cover behind a compound wall before advancing further. Afghan and British soldiers engage the distant enemy using small arms and grenade launchers. Shaky camera shots as the patrol advances and regroups.
