  • Summary: Arrival of the first commercial aircraft at Basra International Airport, Iraq, since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime: an aid flight, sponsored by Sir Richard Branson, bringing 60 tons of medical supplies to Iraq.
  • Description: The aircraft, Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747-400 "Tubular Belle" (G-VHOT) approaches, lands and taxies onto apron. Passengers descent: journalists and cameramen first, followed by a smiling Sir Richard Branson, who meets officers and soldiers and poses for various photographs (including a shot with the pilot and two stewardesses). Soldiers also pose for group photographs. Boxes of aid are unloaded from the aircraft's cargo hold by members of UK MAMS and loaded onto transport. Richard Branson talks to senior officer. ISO containers full of supplies are loaded onto the back of vehicles equipped with the DROPS pick-up system.
