Summary: Scenes of 1st Battalion the Parachute Regiment in Al-Amarah, Iraq.
Description: I. Members of 1 Para on patrol, both on foot and in WMIKs (Land Rovers with mounted weapons). Liaising with local men. Foot patrol finds discarded ammunition on waste ground.
II. Snap (temporary) vehicle checkpoint (VCP): Paras search vehicles. Scenes at a permanent VCP manned by the Royal Military Police.
III. Ordnance clearance in desert: anti-personnel mine and 105mm shells are primed (former with a high temperature pyrotechnic torch, latter with plastic explosive). Long shot of shells being exploded.
IV. Briefing of British civilian workers in CIMIC (Civil-Military Cooperation) Reconstruction House. Paras on guard outside and on patrol in Al-Amarah, both on foot and on board WMIKs. Close-ups on WMIK, including gun and gear stick (the gear knob is an effigy of a skull).
V. Further brief views of minefield seen earlier, showing crater made by the detonation of shells, and burnt-out remains of the torch and the anti-personnel mine.
