Members of 1 LI set off on patrol (shots from moving vehicle) and set up vehicle checkpoint on desert road (Route 6 between Basra and Baghdad): pickup and Mercedes are searched. Vehicle and foot patrols in town, possibly Al Majar al-Kabir. Major Phil Fox, OC B Company 1 LI, liaises with local sheiks through an interpreter. Shots in 1 LI compound, where confiscated Iraqi weapons are unloaded from Land Rover and placed on display.
