- Summary:
- Description: CMP, Austin and Fordson trucks and lorries from the 15th (Scottish) Division head along a wooded section of the Livarot-Vimoutiers road and through the village of St Foy-de-Montgommery. The cameraman surveys Vimoutiers, with its church standing intact among the surrounding ruins. A CMP 3-ton lorry rumbles along a bumpy road past pioneers at work on improving the road outside Vimoutiers. Troops examine the remains of AFVs and motorised transport (including a Sturmgeschütz III) lying in a bomb crater on the road to Orbec, which, as it was the Germans' main escape route, is seen lined with destroyed German vehicles. The cameraman scans the countryside around Orbec. Vehicles belonging to the Scottish division drive past an abandoned PzKpfw IV Ausf H tank in the undamaged town. Demolished by the Germans in order to block the road into Bernay, a house now rests lopsidedly on its foundations. In Bernay, infantrymen and RASC drivers in Bedford QLT lorries are given drinks by civilians. Shermans from the 4th Armoured Brigade head through the town. Sappers push a Bailey bridge into position over the River Risle at Beaumont-le-Roger. The 6th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers enters the town along the Evreux-Bernay railway line.
