II. "To victory through France."
British and Canadian forces advance towards the Seine Estuary, past wrecked and burning German armour. Soldiers surrender, including some of the foreign nationals conscripted by the German Army. Commentary speaks of the rebirth of the Republic over film of devastated buildings. Mosquito aircraft make a low-level attack on an SS barracks near Bordeaux as the Maquis ("epic yet to be told") prepares to attack. In addition to its bombing mission RAF is reported to have dropped masses of arms and ammunition to the resistance forces in Europe "who are ready to strike whenever told." FFI members arm themselves with weapons hidden in a barn.
