Summary: Monochrome, silent CCTV footage (from several different cameras) showing troops undergoing training in keeping public order at "Beeston Village" urban training area. The camera number appears in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Note that some of the cameras are black and white, and some colour.
Description: I. "Loyalist" band marches down street, picking up supporters as it progresses. The band is allowed through an army vehicular roadblock and proceeds down street. Adjoining streets have been barricaded with lorries against protesters although some throw missiles over the barricades. Protesters advance on snatch Land Rover roadblock Soldiers stand by on estate. Band marches back the way it came. Village square: some unrest as protesters throw stones and petrol bombs at rolling roadblock; meanwhile, other protesters attack roadblock at the other end of the street leading into the square. Soldiers and police advance and push the protesters back. Soldiers regroup and head back to compound, which comes under attack; further scenes of street unrest (one street is partially blocked by a wrecked car). Violence escalates and spreads throughout the village: extended scenes show the attempts at containment from various cameras.
II. Night: car is set alight outside the police/army compound. The doors open and an armoured heavy mover emerges and pushes the blazing car to one side. Soldiers in riot gear and snatch Land Rovers begin to advance on the rioters, who are slowly pushed back. Numerous petrol bombs are thrown. A fire engine is deployed. After a brief lull, the violence escalates again and many more petrol bombs are thrown: lengthy scenes show the unrest spreading throughout the village, as more vehicular roadblocks are set up.
