Summary: Unedited film of a British Lieutenant-General briefing journalists at a press conference during Exercise Lionheart, the largest military exercise undertaken by British Forces since the Second World War.
Description: The General discusses the rare occurrence of commanders being able to command such large military formations in peacetime. The General goes on to answer questions on the good reliability of the Challenger main battle tank, the tracked Rapier ground to air missile system and the implementation of the new Ptarmigan battlefield communication system and the Wavell computer command and control system. A West German General goes on to discuss the German and American equipment. The British commander also discusses the military's attempts to limit the damage to the West German countryside, the ongoing monitoring of the situation and compensation for anyone who has had property or farmland damaged. Both Generals discuss how successfully the exercise has gone to date, how tank movements, namely the constant change of fire position, are restricted to limit damage to countryside and the lessons learned from the exercise so far.
