Summary: Unedited film of bridging activities on the banks of the Elbe.
Description: I. Aerial footage taken from a helicopter of twenty one British Army and German Army M3 amphibious bridging vehicles driving into the Elbe and manoeuvring into position to form a temporary bridge across across the span of the river. One British and one German M3 drive across the bridge.
II. British M3 amphibious bridging vehicles and crews on the banks of the Elbe prior to the exercise. M3s. M3s driving into the Elbe while German Army personnel look on. British, Polish and German troops in conversation beside the river. A sign stating: "20th Anniversary Patenschaft Day 3 December 1997 28 Engineer Regiment Schweres Pionierbataillon 130 Artlenburg". A female German civilian public information officer introduces the British and German officers in charge of the exercise to the public and press. Two German officers explain (in German)with the help of diagrams what the exercise will entail and Lieutenant-Colonel Mullin of the Royal Engineers explains the relationship (in English) between the two engineering regiments and the new M3 vehicle's advantages over the earlier M2. The M3s move into the Elbe and form the bridge. Two M3s (one British one German) drive across and are followed by the two commanding officers who shake hands for the photographers. Soldiers and civilians then cross the bridge. Further speeches by Mullin and his German counterpart in a mess followed by an exchange of gifts to celebrate the twenty year partnership.
