Title:AUNAY-SUR-ODON IS CAPTURED BY 2ND ARMY [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 113-21
Summary: Additional coverage of the devastation in the village of Aunay-sur-Odon, captured by both the 7th Armoured Division and the 59th (Staffordshire) Division.
Description: Several wrecked German army waggons (?) and dead horses (?) are found among the heaps of rubble and bomb-craters filled with stagnant water. A 7th Armoured Division bulldozer starts clearing operations.
Notes: Note: Refer to A70 113-18 and 20 for material shot shortly after Aunay-sur-Odon's capture by the 7th Armoured and 59th (Staffordshire) Divisions and to A70 124-7 and 8 for footage showing clearance operations underway. Aunay itself was bombed flat during 'choke raids' launched by the Allied air forces shortly after D-Day which were designed to interrupt the flow of German reinforcements to the front.
Remarks: Much of this footage was filmed out-of-focus. Best seen with the items listed above.
