Description: The RAF Phantom aircraft in action: the uses to which it can be put are described, but it depends on the men that's using them. Pilots receive briefing while being transferred to airfield in ancient RAF bus; final preparation and take-off; in flight. Aircraft plotted by ops room. Landing and Debriefing. The role of RAF Strike Command: Nimrod aircraft (XV235) seen on runway, in flight and scanning for ship at sea. Interior shots. Air Support Command in action, transporting troops from RAF Brize Norton (aircraft XR383 and VX104) to another airfield (night landing). Supplies and troops (Scottish) disembark. Hercules aircraft fly in tactical formation, practising support role for taking matériel and troops behind enemy lines. Whirlwind helicopters land troops. Pilot of Hercules speaks about careers in the RAF (live) and stresses the thoroughness of training: sequence of Phantom flight simulator follows. Men from the various commands describe why they are pilots and why they enjoy it. Film ends by stressing the virtues of service life: there is a comradeship in the RAF which is not found outside (bar scenes).
