Summary: Royal Marine Commandos continue their search in the mountains of Afghanistan for elements of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda between 6 and 8 May.
Description: Chinook helicopter flies in with supplies; helicopter remains in flight - only the rear loading ramp actually touches the ground, the front of the helicopter remaining aloft over the ridge. Members of Y Company, 45 Commando, continue to clear the area. Friendly meeting with a trio of local men, out chopping wood: they fraternise and one of the men attempts to put cam cream on his face. The men brew tea for the Marines and also offer bread; one of them does a dance. The patrol continues - Marines advance across the Chumara Valley, where they pass more rough abandoned buildings, and also waterfalls. They arrive at a Pashtun settlement where they speak with the local people (one of whom can speak some English); a villager's Kalashnikov is inspected. The Marines advance further and reach another settlement where women and children also live; they are given more tea. Camels (used by the villagers as beasts of burden) walk past.
