Description: (Camera 1 Tape 1) Royal Marine Commandos practice getting into an inflatable assault boat and also practice capsize drills.
(Camera 1 Tape 2) Groups of Royal Marine Commandos carry Zodiac inflatable assault boats into surf near Instow. Rigid assault boat on beach. Zodiac and Rigid Raider boats together in the water. (ca 15 mins)
(Camera 1 Tape 3) Marine checks Zodiac inflatable boat on beach (staged sequence for camera). Landing Craft Utility in river inlet at Instow. Zodiac inflatable is carried out by group of Royal Marines, who climb on board (two sequences). Zodiac is carried back to shore. Marines with full packs wade out to inflatable boat; they climb on board and start the outboard motor. Further wading drills: Marines (one with gun at ready) wade ashore.
(Camera 1 Tape 4) Further surf drill with Zodiac inflatable - one of the Royal Marines involved has a small video camera in waterproofed yellow casing. Boat sets off to sea (landing craft in background). Shots of stern of small landing craft at sea - wake is visible. Brief shots in wheelhouse. Sequence at stern showing dropping of anchor, with cable paying out from winch. Landing craft (not cameracraft) comes in to land. Further anchor sequence.
(Camera 1 Tape 5) Further scenes of anchor being laid from landing craft (continued from previous tape). Anchor is also seen being laid. Small beached landing craft is towed into the water by a tracked beach recovery vehicle. (ca 5 mins)
(Camera 1 Tape 6) Surf drills with Rigid Raider assault boat; Marines carry it out into the surf, the outboard motor is started and it sets off and returns later. Similar drills are shown. Lone Marine takes the Rigid Raider across the surf to where a group of Marines are waiting in the water; they climb on board. Further drills on the beach, including preparation of boat.
(Camera 2 Tape 1) Two large landing craft approach shore; when they reach the shallows the ramp is lowered and Royal Marines disembark. Tracked beach recovery vehicle tows beached landing craft out into the water.
(Camera 2 Tape 2) Small covered landing craft, at the shoreline facing the beach, tries to manoeuvre into a seaward position but is hindered by the swelling surf; second craft tows it around using a rope. Tracked beach recovery vehicle nudges another small landing craft out into the water. General views of larger landing craft approaching the shore - one of them lowers its ramp at the shoreline.
