Summary: Members of J Company, 45 Commando, patrolling on Highway 601 near Lashkar Gah.
Description: General views of Lashkar Gah and its people; camera position from the top cover of a moving Land Rover. The patrol visits a school in Lashkar Gah which is being reconstructed: CIMIC officer Captain Rachael Ward meets workers and teachers. Students are seen in the classroom and in the hallways. Exterior views: the school is being guarded by members of the Afghan National Police. Further views from top cover of Lashkar Gah. Outside the town, sacks of seized opium poppy seeds, which have been prepared for burning, are kept under guard by police; an Afghan PKM machine gun is silhouetted against the sun. Mohammad Gulab Mangal, the Governor of Helmand Province, arrives with his entourage. Further opium is brought and stacked onto the prepared bonfire. (Timecode resets at 31 minutes and there is a brief freeze.) Governor Mangal makes a brief speech (in Pashto) then sets fire to the opium bonfire, which burns furiously.
