- Description: I. 'MACARTHUR RETURNS TO THE PHILIPPINES.' Panoramic footage shows part of the United States (US) invasion shipping moving towards Leyte Island (Philippine Islands). US Seventh Fleet destroyers are shown at sea. Shells fired from US naval vessels impact on the shoreline. Landing craft are lowered by hoist from a larger parent craft. US 6th Army infantry with slung M1 .30-inch carbines climb down netting into waiting landing craft. US landing craft make for the shoreline of Leyte Island. United States Marine Corps (USMC) troops dig fox-holes on a beach forming part of the sixteen mile long US landing area. US LVT (Landing Vehicle Tracked) Buffalo amphibious load carriers move up a beach. Brief footage shows Filipino guerrillas acting in support of the US landings. A US infantryman moves into the doorway of a hut carrying an M1 Thompson .45-inch sub-machine gun. US General Douglas MacArthur greets General Walter Krueger (Commander US 6th Army). Filipino civilians and US 6th Army infantry walk past a road sign that reads "Estacion, Leytranco, Palo." US M5 light tanks (mounting Browning .50-inch heavy machine guns for anti-aircraft defence) move along a road lined with palm trees. US infantry move into the town of Pâlo on Leyte Island. General Douglas MacArthur gives a speech from the steps of the Provisional Capitol Building of Leyte. US infantry move through a palm grove in support of M4A1 Sherman tanks. A US 105mm howitzer fires at high elevation from the cover of farm buildings. A US Navy pilot watches as a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver attack aircraft burns on a grass landing strip (crash-landing ?). II. 'GREECE.' Greek civilians load a British soft-skinned vehicle with supplies of "Salisbury Corned Beef" from New Zealand. Canned goods are displayed which include tinned "Real Milk" and "Vienna Sausage." Greek civilians carrying pots and pans queue for food rations (baked beans) in an Athens street. III. 'AN HISTORIC MEETING.' British Prime Minister Winston Spencer Churchill is driven under escort from the British Embassy in Cairo to the Auberge du Lac (Qaroun Lake) at Fayoum (Faiyum) for a meeting with King Ibn Saud of Arabia. British and Egyptian Army personnel armed with Lee-Enfield Mk III and No.IV .303-inch rifles stand guard outside the Auberge du Lac. Brief footage shows Winston Churchill and King Saud at dinner. Churchill, King Saud, Lord Killearn (Sir Miles Lampson) and Anthony Eden sit on the terrace of the lake-side hotel. The British Prime Minister is later a guest of Lord Killearn at his desert retreat in Kom Oshim. Churchill is greeted on his arrival by Lady Killearn and her son Victor. British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden accompanied by Lord Killearn visits Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Mahir Pasha.
