Summary: Members of B Company, 1st Battalion the Rifles, on patrol during Operation Kapcha Alaman in the Garmsir area. (Note that there is no sound on this tape.)
Description: At Patrol Base Assan Abbad, soldiers make final kit preparations and then set off on combined vehicle and foot patrol. Cameraman follows patrol from top cover of moving WMIK Land Rover; other vehicles involved in the patrol include quad bikes and Mastiffs. Extended scenes show routine patrol along roads, through countryside and past various compounds (no sound on this sequence). Soldier watches aerial reconnaissance footage on a laptop screen. Soldiers patrol along road and pause by the bank of a stream for a situation report using maps. Patrol pauses to rest: gunners keep watch. The patrol resumes: an "Operation Barma" search drill is carried out, a search for mines and improvised explosive devices using both hands and mine detectors. Further extended patrol scenes: at one point, an unmanned surveillance drone is launched from the back of a vehicle. Patrol along river bank; further Barma searches. IEDD (improvised explosives device disposal) team search for hidden devices; one is located (offscreen) and preparations are made for its disposal.
