Summary: Silent footage with captions of the US Navy Sock Project of 1944, an artificial floating seadrome (second reel of MAR series 28).
Description: Footage of carrier borne aircraft landing (Grumman Avengers and Grumman Hellcats). Pilots are briefed on the runway. Aircraft in tight formation on the taxiway, wings folded but propellers spinning. Aircraft taxi onto the main runway one by one, their wings folding into place and take off.
Aircraft is pulled into place by a tractor, ad chocks are placed under the wheels.
Rearming: torpedo trolleys are moved into place on deck using cranes. Aircraft are ammunitioned. Refuelling from bowser. US Navy fire tender: fire crews practice hosing down an aircraft.
“Defensive Camouflage”. Aerial views of the seadrome; smokescreen is deployed from large size smoke dispensers on the decks and covers the seadrome with cloud-like smoke. Small vessels sailing alongside dispense further smoke.
