Summary: Trials with the laying of Class 30 trackway.
Description: Bedford lorry with a large bobbin dispenser of Class 30 trackway is parked in a field. Several men grasp the leading edge of the trackway and manually pull it forward over the cab and under the wheels of the lorry. The vehicle is then driven forward over the track, causing it to unravel and lay down as the vehicle moves forward. Afterward, the track is fed back over the bobbin and manually wound back onto it. Measurements are recorded. The bobbin is secured on the back of the lorry and the test is then repeated.
Second test, this time on the beach at Instow. Various vehicles, including a DUKW, drive over the (laid) trackway, after which the track is wound back onto the bobbin. Views of the impressions made by the trackway in the sand.
Trackway dispensing vehicle on board LCM(8) HMS Rampart (L4037); it is driven down the ramp and proceeds to lay its trackway on the beach. The trackway is would back onto the bobbin again, and the trial is repeated. The Bedford dispenser is towed along the beach by a DUKW.
Trackway is laid in the surf on the LCM(9) prototype L3507. The LCM backs away seaward and closes her ramp door. Further unrolling trials take place on the beach.
