Summary: British trials of the US Army's Lynx command and reconnaissance vehicle, an amphibious cousin of the M113 armoured personnel carrier.
Description: Lynx parked on a beach near Instow. Three crewmen climb out and raise the folded flotation screen. The vehicle moves, but does not enter the water; the crew fold the flotation screen down again. Various adjustments are made (a second cameraman can be seen filming). Flotation screen is raised again.
Scenes at the Amphibious Experimental Establishment (AXE), where the Lynx (collar raised) is tested in the dip tank. Hatches are opened to check the waterproofing of the vehicles interior.
The Lynx in the sea off Instow, shadowed by various small boats and a Sea Truck. It drives in and out of the water numerous times. (Shots are taken at different times of day and vary in quality.) A series of numbered runs are shown in which the Lynx drives into the water from beach and back ashore (the numbers are marked on the side of the flotation screen). On Run 11, the Lynx becomes stuck in mud as it tries to return to land, and has to be towed.
