Other titles:AMPHIBIOUS TRIALS AND TRAINING UNIT, ROYAL MARINES [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: Further trials of the Landing Craft Mechanised Mark 9, this time using heavy duty vehicles.
Description: A 20-ton low loader, transporting a heavy duty tractor, drives slowly on board LCM from cobbled quayside; a large truck assists in pushing it. On the quayside, large temporary rubber pools are inflated and filled with water and covered (simulated bulk fuel installations?). View from the cab of a truck as it drives on board; the truck is pushing an empty low loader. (It is raining and the windscreen wiper of the truck constantly moves across the field of view.) Different view, from on board the LCM, shows the truck reversing, the trailer now attached to it and being pulled off. View from quayside as the truck proceeds to push the lowloader back on board the LCM. Once accomplished, both truck and low loader are secured in place.
Further loading and unloading exercises take place under brighter lighting conditions, also trials with numerous types of truck. The final trial involves a Centurion bridgelayer tank, complete with folding bridge, which drives on board (a beach armoured recovery vehicle is on hand to render assistance if necessary). Later, on the quayside, the bridgelayer tank deploys its bridge, and the tank body drives over it.
