Summary: Silent compilation, with numerous captions, showing field demonstrations of various mine clearance and related devices.
Description: I. 2-inch mortar fires a grapnel with trailing cord; range of 130 yards. This device is for dealing with tripwire operated anti-personnel mines; the cord is pulled back by hand (in this demonstration, S-mines - German schrapnellmines - can be seen exploding).
II. 2-inch mortar fires a twin cordtex rope, the intention being to trigger tripwires by the weight of the cordtex or by detonation (by lighting the cordtex's fuse).
III. Hand-placed charges. General Wade charges are placed against a concrete wall, a frame is attached, and detonators are fixed before a detonating cord is lit remotely. (Explosion not seen.)
IV. Ploughs. The Mk III Farmer plough is shown deck-mounted on a Churchill tank; it ploughs a 23-inch wide furrow 12-inches deep and "turns out" mines from the path of the vehicle. The Mk III is also seen fitted to a Sherman.
V. The Goat, seen here on a Churchill AVRE, places a charge from behind sufficient to breach a 12-foot wall and allow the passage of a tank.
VI. The Canadian Roller and Scorpion. The roller is fitted to a Churchill or a Sherman. Bangalore torpedoes are seen being used against wire. Roller is seen blowing up a Tellermine. A snake charge is dragged after the tank. A Scorpion tank with flail attachment is also seen in action. Trailing behind the Scorpion is the Centipede, a device which can set off S-mines.
VII. The Conger: a hose fired across a minefield from a modified Universal Carrier which is then filled with liquid explosive and detonated. [Abrupt end]
