  • Description: I. Interview with Lieutenant Bedford Smith, Platoon Commander of B Company (Rorke's Drift), 2nd Battalion the Royal Welsh, discussing the counter IDF patrol that afternoon, setting out to check for weapons and counter indirect fire attacks. II. Preparation in tank park at the Palace: interior of Warrior (very dusty) where soldiers are sitting. Scenes during the patrol: interior of Warrior, gunner on watch. Soldiers dismount and go on foot patrol, checking vulnerable pointsand proceeding cautiously along Basra streets. Warriors make their way slowly along the street; crew (and cameraman climb into the back. More foot patrol scenes; red smoke from a marker flare drifts past. Smoke from the back of a Warrior (from another flare.) III. Major road on the outskirts of Basra: armoured convoy drives past. Temporary vehicle checkpoint is set up; vehicles are stopped and routine searches are carried out (vehicles and their occupants). At one point, the road is blocked by a Warrior. Patrol climb back on board. Further patrol scene, this time on a residential street: green marker flare is set off. Soldiers and vehicles move slowly down the street. Roadsides are inspected. Children gather. Another flare (red) is set off, and the platoon get into their Warriors. (The interior is filled with red smoke.) IV. Further interview with Lieutenant Bedford Smith, discussing the patrol. The interview is ended abruptly as the sound of indirect fire is heard; the Lieutenant and the cameraman lie prone and brace themselves against the nearest Hesco barrier as the alert siren blares.
