- Description: I. Reel One. HMS Cardigan Bay closes on cameraship HMS Glory as crewmen prepare boatswain's chair. Line fired between the two ships and jackstay rigged. Hauling party claps on and Rear-Admiral Scott-Moncrieff transfers to the carrier - he is wearing khaki. LA shot from aft on the flightdeck to island - Admiral's flag flies above Ensign, both blowing more or less directly into the camera - Type 281 Air Search Radar scanning. The Admiral is followed by his Flag Lieutenant and his steward, who carries the Admiral's dunnage in a large canvas bag. Man semaphores from bridge of Cardigan Bay - camera slowly pans aft to frigate's stern. II. Flying operations on HMS Glory. MS from camera position alongside island to Firefly being positioned on catapult - another taxies into foreground, screen left, obscuring the view as the first aircraft is launched. The process is repeated. As third Firefly moves onto the catapult, a Sea Fury, wings folded, taxies forward into frame. MLS as two Sea Furies go overhead. Shot aft through crash barrier as Sea Fury lands on. MS forward along flightdeck - Sea Furies are parked down the starboard deck edge and a Firefly and a Sea Fury on the centreline. III. Captain K S Colquhoun talks with Scott-Moncrieff - boatswain's chair rigged in right foreground. HMS Alacrity is alongside, and Scott-Moncrieff transfers to the frigate, where he joins Commander Luard on the bridge. IV. LS aft through crash barrier as Sea Fury lands on - the 1,000th operational deck landing without accident. LA as the pilot, Lieutenant-Commander Hall, deplanes to be congratulated by Commander (Air) S Keane. V. Reel Two. Sequence shot from the observer's seat in a Firefly as the aircraft is catapulted off HMS Glory - camera shooting to starboard. Camera-aircraft circles Glory. Similar sequence, camera shooting to port to catapult control - two of the deck crew (stokers) run into frame and lie flat near the deck edge after having hooked the aircraft on, waiting ERA gets Flight Deck Officer's signal and activates catapult, camera-aircraft is launched, view from aircraft in flight - carrier's escorting destroyer appears in XLS. VI. Sequence showing HMS Kenya alongside for transfer of Rear-Admiral Scott-Moncrieff - although Glory's crewmen are shown hauling on lines, the actual transfer is not shown. Kenya's CO, Captain Podger, stares across at the carrier - he is wearing dark glasses. VII. LA.CU of Landing Signals Officer, and pan right to Firefly as it lands on. MS to Sea Fury, with wings folded, as deck crew chock the undercarriage and it is struck down on the lift - a small tractor moves along the deck in the background. Another Sea Fury is moved aft along portside deck edge and chocked up. VIII. Aerial views of HMS Glory from a circling aircraft. IX. Continuation of VI. Bread bag is transferred by jackstay from carrier and Kenya - bag is marked BREAD ONLY/RETURN TO/HMS KENYA. A second bag is sent across to the cruiser. Fine MS off the port quarter as Kenya moves away. Cut to scene on Kenya's return to the carrier, with shots of the cruiser as she closes. Rating loads a line-throwing gun. Sequence showing Rear-Admiral Scott-Moncrieff donning a life-jacket, and returning to Kenya in boatswain's chair after his visit to Glory. Cut to scene which shows Scott-Moncrieff arriving by boatswain's chair from Kenya - side party salutes. Scott-Moncrieff and Captain Colquhoun go into the island, and the empty chair returns to Kenya. Various shots of sailors and marines hauling on lines. Anon Commander RN transfers to Kenya. X. Sequence shot from Firefly as it is catapulted off Glory. In flight, other aircraft can be seen in company. LS to Korean coast, seen over Firefly's starboard wing. Aircraft crosses the coast and proceeds inland. CU of port wing as 20mm cannon fire short bursts. Aircraft returns to carrier and circles - Glory and one of her escorting destroyers are seen with a low sun on the sea. XI. Return of wounded pilot to HMS Glory from a hospital ashore. A USN HU.1 touches down and the returned pilot jumps out onto the flightdeck - he is met by another officer who points out the camera to him - the pilot glances towards it as he walks off down the deck. XII. Flightdeck activity. Sea Fury launched from catapult. A second aircraft follows, its wing racks loaded with rockets. XIII. Reel Three. CU of Vice-Admiral Sir Guy Russell, C-in-C Far Eastern Station, with Major-General A J H Cassels, CO of 1st Commonwealth Division, and Brigadier G Taylor, CO of 28th Commonwealth Brigade - the Brigadier is indicating positions on a map. Rear-Admiral Scott-Moncrieff arrives by jeep at the field HQ - both Admirals wear dark glasses. XIV. CUs of five glum Chinese in a small barbed-wire enclosure, prominently marked as P.O.W. CAGE - British guards stand ostentatiously in the foreground. LS of pontoon bridge across the Imjin River - lorries of 78 Company RASC pass to and fro. XV. Continuation of XIII. Two Cessna 305A Bird Dogs arrive at Fort George airstrip with the two British Admirals. They are met by Major-General Cassel's ADC and board a jeep - Vice-Admiral Russell takes the front seat. At HQ 28 Brigade the visitors shake hands with their Army counterparts. Russell remounts a jeep - presumably at the end of the visit. XVI. Brief sequence in a Korean village as a local youth shows some visitors his Soviet PPSh SMG. XVII. Navigation Officer and crewmen from HMS Amethyst chart the Han River. CU of leadsman at work on cameravessel - the ROK patrol boat AMC 302. MS of single 40mm on focsle, and pan right to show Lieutenant taking low angle sextant sights. CU of the Lieutenant ashore, taking notes and talking with US soldiers and a ROK Naval officer. XVIII. Reel Four. An Australian Improved Tribal Class destroyer, probably HMAS Bataan, bombards shore targets. LA.CU of forward 4.7-inch turrets trained to port. LA shots and HA from bridge to barrel array, now trained over the starboard beam - the guns fire by single barrels. CUs of the breech of 4.7-inch gun as case ejects - the guns are firing on reduced charge, and the ejecting case barely reaches the catch-net. MS behind shield of A gun as it trains from over the port bow onto the beam - the two gun loading numbers, both of whom are handling cases, pace slowly backwards to keep position - right-hand barrel fires and is reloaded - gun crew wear US-style uniform. CU of breech as case ejects and the tray worker pushes loading tray into position and power-rams the fresh round - the tray swings back and loader drops in a fresh case, the tray worker loading the shell. LA views of A turret firing to shore, and the frontal aspect of the ship, shot from the eyes. LS pans over the coast - at the end of this sequence the camera holds on a plume of smoke hanging over a building onshore. A crewman surveys the shore through binoculars. LA from focsle as A and B fire to port with single barrels. Activity on the ship's bridge: crewman in headset, and another in talker-helmet; crewman operating signal searchlight; officer taking a bearing from bridge compass while two others survey the shore through binoculars; CU of man operating signal searchlight; man using fixed spotting glasses; ship's captain. MS aft from focsle to front of bridge - A and B are on look-out bearings - A over the starboard bow and B to port. XIX. Reel Five. Three naval ratings go shopping in Sasebo - one American, a Canadian photographer from HMCS Shearwater and a Briton, an Electricians Mate, 1st Class, from the HQ ship HMS Ladybird. The trio wander the streets, looking at shops and stalls. A jeep marked SHORE PATROL appears in one scene. Among the local wares they examine are wicker-work shopping bags, personal jewellery, cigarette lighters, and china tea services. The main sequence is shot at a stall selling ingenious clockwork toys, which the vendor demonstrates on the pavement. XX. Reel Six. Material related to XVII, showing HMS Amethyst operating in the Han River. MS to rear of shield on X gun - both barrels fire cases eject, then left hand barrel fires, followed by another full salvo - officer standing by the gun shield observes the effect of the bombardment through binoculars.
