Summary: Members of the RAF Regiment go on patrol in Basra, aimed at checking previous points of IDF (indirect fire) on Basra Air Station and attempting to interdict the movement of illegal weapons.
Description: Interior of Mastiff armoured vehicle on the move; Captain Lorna Ward and Corporal Ralph Merry of the Combat Camera Team, accompanying the patrol, make preparations. Upward shot (image intensifier) shows the gunner on top cover, who has spotted possible firing and does a situation report and checks for possible movements with base. (It turns out that the flashes are illuminating rounds fired by distant British AS90 guns firing.) Corporal Merry (who is a stills photographer) takes photographs of the flashes ("firing towards Green Nine, boss"). Shots from top cover on patrol: further shots of the artillery rounds illuminating the sky. Captain Ward gives a piece to camera about the likely reasons for the firing. Views of the Shatt al-Arab with small boat. Various patrol views, including shots of accompanying WMIK Land Rover. Patrol parks by roadside. Normal colour footage: temporary vehicle checkpoint in village near the Air Station. Interview with Flight Lieutenant Rick May of 34 Squadron about the patrol. Crew get back into Mastiff.
