Summary: Members of 1st Battalion the Royal Welch Fusiliers from Camp Chindit carry out searches in villages near Az Zubayr.
Description: Soldiers taking part practice body searches before departing on the operation. Shots from top cover of Land Rover en route to the Az Zubayr area; bringing up the rear is an armoured car. On arrival at the search location, they prepare for searches; Iraqi Police are also in attendance. A house is entered and a routine search is carried out; women and children watch. A small locked strongbox is opened and searched. The platoon then walk through the village; local children gather to watch, and soldiers chat with them. Meanwhile, at a second location, a cache of ammunition is discovered (including AK47 magazines). The search continues through the village. Children and pets (including a cat, a puppy and a caged bird). Interior search of another house with Iraqi Police. Village scenes: local people, donkey. The patrol leaves the first village and heads to a second location (further top cover shots). Local men are questioned; discussion about a large fuel tank in the back of a lorry. Interview with local police chief. Searches continue: in one house, a grenade is discovered.
