Initial briefing is followed by the planting of some explosive ordnance on the open desert range. Detonator cable is laid and the firing box is set up under supervision. PE4 plastic explosive is placed beside the ordnance (a small 51mm projectile) and primed using detonator cable and gaffa tape. (Several projectiles are prepared in this manner.) Small sandbags are placed on the projectiles.
