Title:COMMANDOS AND CANADIAN TROOPS IN ACTION ON D-DAY (PART 2) [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 37-2
Other titles:
Summary: 4th Special Service Brigade goes into action alongside the 8th Canadian Brigade against German seaside strongpoints.
Description: I. LCI(S)s carrying commandos serving with 4th Special Service Brigade steam into Southampton Water past several Empire class troopships from Force 'S' anchored in the background. Sailors and men from the Commando Brigade's headquarters eat their tinned rations on board their invasion craft.
II. Commandos belonging to Brigade HQ dig themselves in at the edge of a declared German minefield on the outskirts of Langrune-sur-Mer. A commando hands in a message to a signaller for him to transmit on his handcart-mounted radio set. Brigadier Leicester, the Brigade commander, and his two escorts rejoin Brigade HQ where he confers with his Brigade Major. Two Army photographers, Sergeant R Leatherbarrow and Lieutenant Peter Handford, meet a French family. Canadian troops serving with the North Shore Regiment and the Fort Garry Horse's 'C' Squadron are seen in possession of St Aubin-sur-Mer, where pioneers attached to the Commando Brigade come ashore from an LCI(S) on 'Nan Red' Beach. Men from the two Canadian regiments take a rest; note the destroyed log anti-tank barrier in the background. Prisoners from the 736 Grenadier Regiment's 9th Company are brought in for interrogation.
