Summary: Scenes from Operation Tinto, a search and arrest mission against suspected insurgents in Basra, carried out by the Iraqi Police and members of 1st Battalion the Light Infantry, 2nd Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment, the Queen's Royal Hussars and 1st Battalion the Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry.
Description: I. At night (24 May): British soldiers search suspect house and go through papers, uncovering pictures of militants such as Muqtada al-Sadr. Occupants of the house are held under arrest as the thorough search continues.
II. Daylight (25 May): Snatch Land Rovers and Warriors parked in the street. Inside the back of a Land Rover is a collection of clear plastic bags containing suspect items taken during the raids, including mobile phones, guns and possible bomb-making equipment. Inside one of the suspect houses, prisoners are processed, and are photographed with cards around their necks giving details. In the yard, various ordnance (including various fuses, mortar rounds and a rocket propelled grenade) are laid out for inspection. Convoy of vehicles departs; soldier keeps watch.
III. Back inside suspect house, where further items are discovered and laid out for inspection: possible bomb-making equipment including wires and timers. Blindfolded suspects are led from the house to waiting Land Rovers and put inside. Further views of the yard, where the various mortars and fuses are inspected and photographed by an ATO (Ammunition Technical Officer).
