Title:HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY REGIMENT IN THE DESERT, MAY-JUNE 2007 (TAPE 1) [Allocated Title]
Film Number:BFV 956
Other titles:COLLECTION OF DEFENCE MEDIA OPERATIONS CENTRE VIDEOS [Allocated Title]
Summary: Activities of A Squadron, the Household Cavalry Regiment, in the desert in Maysan Province.
Description: Extended scenes showing WMIK Land Rovers with gun mountings on patrol in the desert, including shots of them distorted by the heat haze. Shots are taken from the ground and also from top cover of moving WMIK. Members of A Squadron liaise informally with tribesmen at a Bedouin camp; they share sweets and cigarettes. Further scenes of WMIK convoy in the desert, including scenes from top cover, posing for the camera and shots of them driving past the camera over a sandy ridge (here one Land Rover gets stuck in the sand and has to be towed out, another loses its bonnet). Forward Air Controller (FAC) gives a sitrep on the radio (posed). Map is consulted. Large caravan of camels walks past the A Squadron camp; general views of the temporary camp itself. Major Goodwin-Hudson, CO of A Squadron, gives a piece to camera (very poor sound) with a group of his men posed behind him. Shots of Scimitar tanks moving through the desert (including crew shots and silhouette shots). Major Goodwin-Hudson gives an operational brief. Off duty in desert camp: two soldiers relax under camouflage netting (talking and eating), another stands outside shaving using a detached wing mirror. Shots of the camp at sunset.
