Summary: One of a series of tapes showing activities of the Army Air Corps, shot for possible use in an edited feature.
Description: Scenes filmed inside a Lynx helicopter show the pilot starting up the engine, while a rear crewman checks the outside of the camb before climbing on board and checking the gun. The helicopter then takes off. Aerial footage on board the helicopter in flight over the desert. Flares are fired. Flight over main roadway; helicopter banks and begins to fly parallel to the road (traffic can be seen moving along it). Helicopter flies back to Basra Air Station and comes in to land, the engine is shut down. Further helicopter interior shots, this time on board a Merlin: fuel hose is attached (seen through the rear door) and equipment is loaded on board. Soldiers embark. Shots from on board Merlin in flight: rear door view. Scenes in the desert (very close to Basra Air Station - perimeter fence can be seen): exterior of Merlin helicopter with fuel line being rolled out. Lynx flies past then comes into land for refuelling from the Merlin: the hose from the Merlin is attached. Second Lynx comes in for refuelling. Lynx takes off. Close-up of the end of the refuelling hose, resting on the red marker material used to indicate the temporary landing zone. On the tarmac at Basra Air Station: Lynx crew are interviewed as a group - Staff Sergeant Keith Lazell (aircraft commander), Captain James Pusey (pilot) and Lance Corporal Michael Valentine (aviation rear crewman). They talk about their role in support of the Immediate Response Team (IRT), and also about their position as part of a Joint Helicopter Force. Pre-flight checks to Lynx helicopter: rotors, refuelling flap, and cab. Checks are also carried out in the rear of the aircraft. Cockpit checks before the helicopter is powered up. View of the Lynx on the pad, its rotors spinning: rear crewman performs final exterior checks. Helicopter powers down: commander deplanes, wearing a cowboy hat, followed by the rest of the crew.
